An artist at capturing life’s most important moments.

When Gretchen Birdwell was 14 years old, she went on a field trip to the capital in Raleigh, North Carolina and took her camera. She spent the trip taking photos of her friends. By the end of the trip, she had caught camera fever.

She would be given money for lunch and would choose to spend in on film. Now, Gretchen owns and operates her own studio in Old Helena Town right on Buck Creek, a spillway for the Cahaba River. Old Helena is a beautiful place that celebrates it’s past while keeping with the current times. The area provides a stunning variety of unique environmental images to photograph. Gretchen’s images are absolutely classic due to her beautiful lighting and how her client’s personality shines through the camera. Each and every shot hold something special to be revered. She specializes in portrait work, specifically high school seniors and newborns, as well as weddings.

To add to her incredible resume, Gretchen is also a Certified Professional Photographer. What exactly does that mean? It means that when she takes your photograph, you are in the best hands possible. Certified Professional Photographers are consistent and achieve great results every time. There is no luck of the camera, it is a shutter snap that will produce a quality image under any condition. Their technical skill is off the chart. They have studied light, posing, including other techniques, to give you heirloom images to last for generations to come due to their unique artistry. Last but not least, you are getting a true blue professional to deliver the best possible images that exceed yours (and their) expectations. Don’t leave it to just anyone to capture your life’s biggest moments. Gretchen is truly one of those artists who will leave no rock overturned. The proof is in the prints.

Gretchen said that her greatest gratification comes from her customer’s happiness. As well as being complimented by her peers in the photography industry. She is constantly researching new cameras and techniques to diversify herself from other photographers, such as a Fuji mirrorless camera. When I asked Gretchen what advice she would give anyone pursuing their dreams would be she said, “…find work that you like, find out why you like it, and be open to criticize yourself so that you can continue to better yourself.”
