All the yellow got you singing the blues? There’s nothing worse than having a great looking ride masked by a coat of pollen, but it’s springtime in Alabama, so there’s no escaping it.
Here are a few tips from our service manager, Jimmy, on keeping the impact to a minimum.
Wash & wax: While it may not stay clean for long, properly preparing the surface will make it easier to get all of the yellow gunk off in the future. It may not look like it, but pollen can be abrasive. Use a no-touch car wash or use this method: Hose your car off first, working from the top to the bottom. Wash the car with a car wash solution, then dry with a soft cloth. If possible, move indoors (or wait until the wind settles) to prevent rubbing pollen into your paint job, then apply a high-quality wax. Keeping your car waxed will both protect the finish and make it easier to give it a good rinse.
Top off your windshield wiper fluid: It’s a small step, but it will ensure that you can give your windshield a periodic rinse.
Clean your wiper blades: Just give them a wipe with a damp cloth once a week or so to prevent any pollen “paste” build up.
Check your engine’s air filter: You should do this periodically. After pollen season and during oil changes is a good time to do it. Reduced air flow will affect your fuel economy.
Check your cabin air filter: Especially if you have allergies, give this a check. Every car is different, so refer to your owner’s manual or look online.
If all else fails, bring your car down to Donohoo Auto and trade it in for a light-colored one! Check out all of the white and yellow cars on the lot HERE!
